CONFIGURATION AND INSTALLATION

STEALTH CLOAKER is designed to run on Apache Unix web servers.
It should work on other Unix servers as well, but will not run
on a Windows NT server.

STEALTH CLOAKER is easiest to install if you install it into
your main directory. You will also get better rankings on
search engines using this method. If your server allows
you to execute scripts in your home directory, install
STEALTH CLOAKER there. Otherwise, you may install STEALTH CLOAKER in
another directory you create, or your cgi-bin. These
instructions assume you can execute scripts in your home
directory.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any HTML files you keep in the
same directory as STEALTH CLOAKER, or in any subdirectories of the
one STEALTH CLOAKER is installed in must end in the extension
.html and NOT .htm. This is because if you have an HTML
file end in the extension .htm, your server will think it
is a CGI script and try to execute it and display an error.

!!!!!THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!
ANY HTML FILES IN THE SAME
DIRECTORY AS STEALTH CLOAKER,
OR ANY SUBDIRECTORIES MUST END IN THE
EXTENSION .HTML AND NOT .HTM.

Installation Instructions:

1) Unzip STEALTH CLOAKER.tar into a directory by itself.
WinZip works well for this

2) Editing configure.cgi:

# Change $normal to equal the name of the page you wish to redirect
# normal people to. This page must be on the same server on which
# Stealth Cloaker is installed. If the page is in a different directory than
# the one in which Stealth Cloaker is installed, you must include the relative
# path information. For instance, if you are installing Stealth Cloaker in
# a subdirectory, $normal would be "../index.html"
$normal = "normal.html";

# Change $base to equal the URL of the page above.
$base = "http://www.drizware.com/normal.html";

# OPTIONAL
# If you want to send people to a page that is not the same server
# make $redir equal to the URL of that page.
$redir = "";

# OPTIONAL
# If you change the name of the engineHTML directory, make $writedir equal
# to the new name and path of the directory.
$writedir = "engineHTML";

# You can edit $writedir to equal the name of your data directory
# if you want to change it
$writedir = "engineHTML";

# You can edit $scriptname to equal the name of this script if you
# change want to it
$scriptname = "stealthcloaker.cgi";

# If you want this script to be password protected, make $password
# equal to your "password". Leave it alone if you don't want it to be
# password protected
$password = "";

3) Upload the following files into your home directory --
MAKE SURE YOU USE ASCII MODE TO UPLOAD!!

.htaccess
stealthcloaker.cgi
index.htm

The rest of the files to be uploaded into engineHTML
directory can be uploaded using Binary mode or Auto mode.

clearlog.jpg
i-biz.jpg
refreash.jpg
savelist.jpg

When you open stealthcloaker.zipr, you will see these paths
represented under paths

4) Change the file permissions for index.htm and
control.cgi to 755 (-rwxr-xr-x).

5) Now make a new directory called engineHTML. Set the file
permissions for this directory to 777 (drwxrwxrwx).

6) Change directories to engineHTML. Upload the folling files --
ALL OF THESE FILES MUST BE UPLOADED IN ASCII MODE!!!

access.log
engine.list
normal.html

7) Change the file permissions for access.log and
engine.list to 777 (-rwxrwxrwx).

If you are not sure how to Telnet to your site (if you don't
know what Telnet is, call your website hosting service and ask
them if you have "shell access" to your account and how to use
it), here is a primer:
* You must have "shell access" to your account.
* In Windows 95 or Windows 98, click on "Start" then "Run".
* Type "telnet www.drizware.com" then click on "ok" or
press [Enter].
* Type your user id when prompted.
* Type your password when prompted.
* You will be logged in to your site. You must change
directories to where you uploaded your files. To do this, type
"cd directoryname" where directoryname is the name of the
directory where you uploaded your files.
* Once you are in the right directory, type "ls -l" (that's
L not the number 1). This command will give you a list of the
contents of that directory, along with the file permissions.
You are now ready to set the file permissions.
* Type "chmod 755 stealthcloaker.cgi" and press [Enter]. You have
changed the file permissions for stealthcloaker.cgi to 755. What this
means is that now this file can be executed like a program.
* Now type "chmod 755 index.htm".
* Type "chmod 777 engineHTML". If you get an error message here,
don't worry. STEALTH CLOAKER should still function properly.
* Now change directories to the "engineHTML" directory ( type "cd
engineHTML" ).
* Type "chmod 777 access.log".
* Type "chmod 777 engine.list".
* You are done!!

If, after completing all this, you get a funny error whenever
you try to run the scripts like "Server Misconfiguration", the
"path to perl" listed in the cgi scripts may be incorrect for
your server. Here's how to fix this:
* Telnet to your domain again.
* Type "whereis perl" then press [Enter].
* A list of locations for perl will be displayed. Write
these down.
* Open the file control.cgi into your notepad program. The
first line reads: "#!/usr/local/bin/perl".
* Change this line to match one of the paths to perl you
wrote down.
* Upload the file back on to your server. Remember to send
it in ASCII mode!
* Run the file from your browser. If it worked, great! Make
the same change to your index.htm file and upload it to your
server as well. If it didn't work, try another one of the
paths to perl.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

STEALTH CLOAKER will run immediately after installation without
any configuration. Here is how it works:

The idea behind STEALTH CLOAKER is that you have two types of
entrance pages on your web site. You have the kind you want
search engines to see and the kind you want everyone else to
see. You show the web surfer a different page than the search
engine.

STEALTH CLOAKER calls search engine entrance pages "robot"
pages. Any page that you want only search engines to see
should be uploaded into your engineHTML directory and have the
file extension ".html".

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL HTML PAGES LOADED INTO THE engineHTML
DIRECTORY HAVE THE EXTENSION .html AND NOT .htm

The pages you want everybody besides search engines to see
we'll call "normal" pages.

Here is how STEALTH CLOAKER works. You submit the index.htm URL to
the search engine. For example, you would submit:

http://www.drizware.com/index.htm to a search engine.

The search engine would come to index
the page and STEALTH CLOAKER would detect it as being a search
engine. It reads the index.html file in your engineHTML directory
and serves the search engine the HTML from that page.

A few days later a web surfer does a search on the same
search engine and your listing comes up. He clicks on it and
STEALTH CLOAKER detects that he is not a search engine. STEALTH CLOAKER
serves him the HTML from the page you specified in the
normal.htm script.

You can have multiple entrance pages using STEALTH CLOAKER. For
example, you might want to have an entrance page called
internet_marketing.html. First, make your entrance page and upload it to
your engineHTML directory as internet_marketing.html.

Second, open your index.htm file in
a text editor and save it under the name internet_marketing.htm. Now
upload internet_marketing.htm to the same directory on your server where
you saved index.htm. Remember to upload in ASCII mode. Next,
change the file permissions on money.htm to 755. You submit
the URL to the search engines the same way. Here's the URL:

http://www.drizware.com/internet_marketing.htm

You can have as many entrance pages as you want.

What it boils down to is this: for each entrance page you
upload to your engineHTML directory, save a new version of index.htm
in your main directory with the same name as your entrance
page, only with the extension .htm instead of html.

The BEST way to use STEALTH CLOAKER is to create a whoe lot of
entrances pages in your engineHTML Directory. Then rename
index.htm for each .html file you have int your engineHTML
directory. Upload all of your .htm files. Then telnet
back into your acount and go to the directory with your
.htm files. Type > chmod 755 *.htm

This will change ALL the files permissions at once.

CONFIGURATION

You can configure your STEALTH CLOAKER script by running
stealthcloaker.cgi from your web browser. In the location box on your
web browser, just type "http://www.drizware.com/stealthcloaker.cgi".
This will bring up a web page that allows you to configure
your STEALTH CLOAKER script.

The second thing you see on this page is a listing of the valid
URLs in your "engineHTML" directory. These are the URLs you can
submit to search engines. This list is handy for keeping track
of the entrance pages you have in your "engineHTML" directory.

Below this you will see two more lists. On the left is a list
of search engine host names and i.p. addresses. When a search
engine or a normal person tries to access one of your pages
using the URL you submitted to the search engine,
STEALTH CLOAKERchecks their i.p. address and/or host name
against this list. If it finds a match, it means the requestor
is a search engine and it sends the robot page. If no match is
found, it sends the normal page or redirects the viewer to the
Unidirect location. You can add or delete new host names and
i.p. addresses to this list as you see fit. Just press the
"Save Robot List" button to save any changes or the "Restore
Robot List" button to erase any changes (before saving only).
On the right you will see an access log. This keeps track of
the last 100 hits to STEALTH CLOAKER. This way you can see who
is accessing your files. If you submit a URL to a search
engine and then notice a hit that received your "normal" page
a few minutes later, you might want to update your Robot List
and add that i.p. address to it. You can see that above these
two lists your i.p. address is displayed (if you don't see
your i.p. address here it means your web server cannot
determine what your i.p. address is). This is done so you can
add your i.p. address to the Engine List so you can check to
see if STEALTH CLOAKER is working.

Good luck at getting #1 rankings in the search engines!
